Artist’s Bio

Henie Lorant has lived most of her life in greater metropolitan New York, where she studied at Hunter College. Her colorful career history includes research assistant in parapsychology, Rhine Laboratory, Duke University; co-author, Test Your ESP; columnist, Woodstock Times, restaurateur and, most recently, licensed massage therapist. She says she received her art training over several decades—at the “school of hard knocks,” but more recently, her friend and mentor, Joanna Coke, MFA, has been a primary source of instruction and inspiration. The mother of two daughters and five grandchildren, Henie has been living in Southwest Florida for the past eight years with her husband, Adrian, and menagerie of cats and birds. Besides other artists and art enthusiasts, her Hubble-image influenced, abstract works on paper appeal to scientists, mathematicians, and spiritual healers.

Artist’s Statement

This work is a labor of love. It flows through me like the ink flows through the pen, like paint pours from the brush. It’s organic and spontaneous, not organized, not planned.

I live a message, and here it is:  “The very nature of the universe is the essence of the human spirit.  We are One with star stuff!”   Not original or new but it resides in all of us, like cosmic DNA. It’s in our shared imagination and thoughts, it informs and inspires Art.

We are tiny beings on a small planet floating through an ocean of space/time which is multi-dimensional, and probably warped!  For me seeing the new discoveries in Astronomy, those wonderful images from deep space, is like hearing from friends phoning home.  That’s why I do what  I do, and I do it with tiny pens and BIG brushes.

Some of these paintings are large and overly  detailed.  With these I’m paying homage to the the  long and intense process that brought about all life forms.  Others are simple and stark.  At some unknown quantum level it’s strictly the basics.  Ultimately, it comes from the same place.  It’s all connected, we’re all connected.  There are no divisions in Sacred Space.

When I’m not touring the universes, I’m here.  I’m a mother, a grandmother, and a wife.  I’m also a seeker, a spiritual teacher, a healer and a very human being.  I’m grateful to be living with this gift of a body, collecting a few new experiences while my granddaughter collects shells.  I enjoy peace and quiet, but I revel in chaos, it’s so creative.

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve followed the arrow, the part of the invisible map that says, “You Are Here!”   So, here we are, sharing a rocky planet, staring at the heavens, taking our yearly trip around our modest sun.   I hope you enjoy your visit through this site, and will come back often. This work, like  everything else, is evolving.  I’m evolving too and I’m happy to say, “The artist within is at home at last, alive and well, a child at play in the universe!”
